From ATC Tower to University Classroom

Degree success for one of our own

Congratulations to our very own Tony Gibson, Inverness Manager Air Traffic Services, for completing the BSc Honours in Air Traffic Management run by the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI).

Tony graduated (in Orkney) on 29th September after completing 2 years.  UHI has tailored the course to licenced Air Traffic Controllers allowing for time spent in ATCO licence training to count towards the points required for the degree award.

Course content goes beyond traditional ATM knowledge, incorporating cyber security, project management, airline planning and developments, airport operations etc.

Pat Nolan, HIAL’s General Manager ATS was instrumental in getting the course up and running…”The BSc in Air Traffic Management represents an excellent opportunity for air traffic officers to obtain a qualification that has real relevance to the profession and will in time become the benchmark for management-level positions.”

As part of HIAL’s commitment to staff development, Tony received both financial support and time off to attend the campus in Perth.
